Charcoal on Newsprint
This is a piece that my dear friend Ingrid Hansen (Artistic Director of SNAFU Dance Theatre) and I sketched of my Toronto pad. She's visiting this fair city to do a clowning workshop. I had her over for tea and this is what happened. It now hangs proudly on the wall as an symbol of our spontaneity!
All of your thoughts are golden.
I'll be honest, I was nervous about my debut blog post. After all, It was the official inauguration of my descent into cyber perpetuity....it seemed so permanent, so irreversible, like the coffee stain on my favorite shirt. Now at first glance, it may seem as if my first blog entry was a total write-off... On the contrary! My premier blog post is at the heart of what this whole blog is about. "Why? Why not!" Seems so obvious, yes? Unfortunately, more often than not, that couldn't be further from the truth. I believe that we are often the ones getting in our own way, putting up obstacles and barriers that can only be torn down by a self-motivation or willingness to do so. In layman's terms we're inherently lazy! But it's not our fault, we're only human. We're only feeling how we have been programed to feel. Not to worry, there is a cure! And the one true remedy for this affliction of the mind is a healthy dose of Yes! Yes to all the things you never got around to doing, and the words you never saw yourself saying. Throw caution to the wind. Heck, throw it all to the wind, every last murmur telling you to wait it out, take it slow, don't be too hasty, don't make a rash decision, don't do something you will regret for the rest of your life... when the only thing to regret is regret itself! Don't be fooled by the wisdom of the world. We must go out and make our own wisdom, battle our own predispositions, and that is what I am trying to accomplish here. This blog will serve as a sounding board to all of my thoughts and actions. It is here that I will share my adventures, my capers, my projects, my foibles, disasters, successes, contemplations, concerns, setbacks, leg-ups, preoccupations, ideas, fears, hopes and dreams...to those who will listen, in the aims that you might also feel the motivation (or continue to feel motivated) to do the things that will enable you to look back and say...I DID THAT!
